Design Philosophy & the Brand

Rujuta Sheth is a women’s wear label based in new york that explores sustainable textile techniques to create contemporary collections. The label crafts airy and beautiful clothing incorporating unconventional fabric techniques. We focus on natural fabrics, beauty of handmade and effortless styles that are transeasonal.

Traditional indian textiles are re- structured with a present- day perspective. lush textures are combined with a myriad of hand crafted techniques - khadi, organic cottons, handwoven silks are cut into simple shapes that are perfect for layering. Collaborating with artisans, the collections utilize several indigenous techniques like block printing, hand weaving & natural dyeing, celebrating its richness and imperfections. A sense of simplistic elegance and the right amount of edge flow through all styles creating universally adaptable clothing ideas. Each garment in the process of creation passes through multiple skilled hands before becoming a part of your wardrobe.

We support fair trade and work with independent non-profit organizations as well as individual artisans to revive and promote hand woven textiles and techniques in craft clusters across India.

Design Process and Textiles

Rujuta Sheth & her team are inspired by artisanal communities across India and are working with them to promote hand woven fabrics and age-old textile techniques. Our collections have introduced an array of diverse techniques such as block printing in its various forms, natural dyeing process, different types of tie dye & shibori, hand weaving of khadi, ikats & silks, appliqué work and hand embroidery.

Sustainability and Production

At Rujuta Sheth we are committed to working with organizations that promote entrepreneurship and small business development in rural pockets of India in an effort to support the withering handloom industry. Our supply chain is open and transparent. The garments are manufactured at an independent factory in India, which employs a network of tailors and trains local men and women to meet international production standards. We implement ethical garmenting by providing fair wages along with a clean and safe environment to work in.

Sustainability is a value that is at the core of our design philosophy; we consciously promote the usage of eco-friendly and low-wastage textile as a step to reduce the carbon foot-print in the industry.
